If you liked Pilot in Command (below), Cathy and Bill Garvin, Phoenix's
resident literary critics, recommend another title: paperback entitled
"Tracon" by Paul McElroy. Published by Japphire, it is a fictional
account about ATC set in Chicago Center. It is suspenseful, but
educational....good research was done and provides insight into the system.
Cathy suggests, however, that you do not take this book as reading
material on your next commercial flight!
Recommended reading...Cathy Steele shares her thoughts on "Pilot in
Command":
"I was lent a book by one of my students, Bill Garvin. It is titled "Pilot
in Command" by Paul A. Craig and published by McGraw-Hill. It is one of the
best written studies on "real world" flying and is particularly geared toward
instructors and pilots in advanced training. Much emphasis is placed on
decision-making abilities coupled with crew/cockpit resource management. This
is one volume that I highly recommend adding to one's library! It can be
purchased over the internet through Barnes and Noble www.bn.com."
