Instruction (Getting Your Certification) Advanced Training: Instrument and Beyond To be able to safely...and legally...fly under "IFR" (Instrument Flight Rules) weather conditions, an additional certification is required. This includes 40 hours of instruction beyond the private pilot certificate. Much time is spent on formulating a solid foundation of basic "attitude" flying by reference to instruments only.
